01

Visiting & Booking

Hours, reservations, parking and getting here.

What are Karma Indian Bistro's opening hours?

We're open daily from noon. Monday to Thursday until 10pm, Friday to Sunday until 11pm. The kitchen takes its last order 30 minutes before close.

Where is Karma Indian Bistro located?

2741 West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, Vancouver, on the West 4th shopping strip. It's a short walk from Kits Beach and about ten minutes from Granville Island.

Do I need a reservation?

Walk-ins are welcome, but we recommend booking for dinner Thursday through Sunday, and any time you want the patio. You can reserve a table online or call 604-559-1666.

How far in advance should I book?

For weekend dinners, booking a few days ahead is recommended. For larger groups, please contact the restaurant directly so the team can confirm availability and arrangements.

Where can I park near Karma Indian Bistro?

Street parking is available on West 4th Avenue and the side streets around the block.

How do I get to Karma by transit?

The 2, 4, 7, 44 and 84 buses stop near West 4th Avenue and Macdonald Street, just a short walk from the restaurant.

Is Karma wheelchair accessible?

There is step-free entry to the restaurant, but the washrooms are not wheelchair accessible and the patio cannot be reached by wheelchair.

Is Karma good for kids?

Yes. High chairs are available, and while there is no separate kids' menu, the kitchen is happy to accommodate younger guests. Mild is our gentlest spice level and works well for most children.

Is there a dress code?

No. There is no dress code — the atmosphere is smart but relaxed.

What's your cancellation policy?

For large parties where a deposit is held, 24 hours' notice is required for cancellations.

02

The Food

What we cook, how spicy it is, and what to order.

What kind of Indian food does Karma serve?

Both North and South Indian. Punjabi classics from the tandoor and the karahi alongside coastal South Indian curries, across 97 dishes and 11 menu sections.

How spicy is the food?

Every curry is cooked to order at one of four levels — mild, medium, hot or Indian hot. Our medium is built for balance rather than heat. If you want real heat, ask for Indian hot and the kitchen will cook it that way.

Is Indian hot actually hot?

Yes. It's the level we cook for people who grew up with the food. If you're unsure, order hot and ask for chilli on the side.

Can you make a dish milder or spicier than the menu says?

Yes. Because each curry is finished when you order it, the kitchen can adjust heat, cream and dairy for your table. Tell your server when you order.

What should I order at Karma if it's my first visit?

The MICHELIN Guide has singled out our chicken Madras and the jumbo prawns in spinach curry. Butter chicken, lamb korma and palak paneer are the most-ordered dishes, and anything from the tandoor is worth a look — start with paneer tikka or tandoori chicken.

Do you have a tandoor?

Yes — a clay oven used for breads, tandoori chicken, paneer tikka and vegetables.

Is the food halal?

Yes. The lamb is halal.

How big are the portions?

Our curries and other dishes are well suited to sharing, particularly when ordering across the menu. For a group meal, ordering a selection of curries, tandoor dishes, rice and breads allows the table to try a range of flavours.

Do you have a full bar?

Yes — cocktails, beer, wine, spirits and a full alcohol-free list of mocktails and soft drinks.

Do you do lunch, or happy hour?

Yes. Karma is open from noon daily and offers a separate menu from 3–5pm every day.

03

Vegetarian, Vegan & Allergies

Roughly half our menu is vegetarian. Here's the detail.

Does Karma have vegetarian options?

Roughly half the menu is vegetarian — nine vegetarian curries plus dals, chaats, paneer tikka and tandoori vegetables from the clay oven.

Does Karma have vegan options?

Yes. There are nine vegan curries on the menu, alongside tandoori vegetables, chana masala and baingan bharta. Vegan dishes are marked throughout the menu.

Is your naan vegan?

Ask your server about our vegan bread options when ordering, as standard naan contains dairy.

Can dishes be made without dairy or cream?

Many can, because each curry is cooked to order. Tell your server when you order and the kitchen will adjust where the dish allows it.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, and gluten-free dishes are marked on the menu. Most curries and rice dishes are naturally gluten-free; the breads are not.

How do you handle nut allergies?

Please let your server know about any nut allergy when ordering. The kitchen can advise which dishes are suitable and flag the allergy with the cooking team.

Should I mention dietary needs when I book?

Yes, please. Note them on your reservation or call ahead, and we'll flag them to the kitchen before you arrive. It's particularly helpful for large tables.

Is there a separate vegetarian menu?

Vegetarian and vegan dishes run through the main menu rather than sitting in a separate section, and each is marked. You can see the vegetarian and vegan dishes here.

04

The Patio & The Room

Where you'll sit, and whether you can sit outside in February.

Does Karma have a patio?

Yes — a covered, heated patio on West 4th Avenue with 12 seats. It's open year-round rather than only during the summer.

Is the patio heated in winter?

Yes. It's covered and heated and stays open through the winter. On wet evenings it's usually the first thing to fill, so book ahead.

Can I request the patio when I book?

If you would specifically like patio seating, mention it when making your reservation so the team can note the request.

Is the patio dog friendly?

Yes. Dogs are welcome on the patio.

How many people does the restaurant seat?

Karma seats 80 guests inside and 12 on the patio, for a total capacity of 92 when the patio is in use.

Is it loud? Can we have a conversation?

The atmosphere is warm and lively while remaining comfortable for conversation. Evenings and weekends become more energetic as the room fills, but the space is designed so you can still relax and talk comfortably at the table.

05

Groups & Private Events

Birthdays, corporate dinners, celebrations and buy-outs.

How many people can you seat for a group booking?

We can accommodate groups of up to 34 guests in the dining room. Full buy-outs are available for up to 80 guests, or 92 including the patio.

What's the largest table you have?

Larger groups can be accommodated across the dining room, with parties of up to 34 guests possible at one time.

Do you offer set menus for groups?

Groups order à la carte from the full menu, rather than from a fixed set menu.

How much notice do you need for a group booking?

For larger groups, please contact the restaurant in advance so the team can confirm availability and make the appropriate arrangements.

Do you take a deposit for large bookings?

There is no standard deposit, although deposits may be taken for large holiday bookings.

Can we bring a cake for a birthday?

This remains unconfirmed, so I would leave this question out until the restaurant confirms whether cakes are allowed and whether there is a plating or cakeage fee.

Do you host corporate dinners?

Yes — corporate dinners, team celebrations and client entertaining are welcome. Groups can order à la carte from the full menu.

06

Takeout & Delivery

Eating Karma at home.

Does Karma do takeout?

Yes. Order pickup online and collect at 2741 West 4th Avenue, or call 604-559-1666.

How long does a pickup order take?

Needs confirmation. I would not publish the 20–25 minute estimate until the restaurant signs off on it.

Do you deliver?

Yes, through DoorDash, across Kitsilano, Point Grey and the West Side.

What's the delivery area and minimum order?

Delivery is available through DoorDash, but the delivery radius and minimum order should be taken directly from the current DoorDash settings rather than guessed.

Is the full menu available for takeout?

Needs confirmation. Keep this out until the restaurant confirms whether any dishes are dine-in only.

Can I order takeout for a large group?

Yes — for larger takeout orders call ahead on 604-559-1666 so the kitchen can time it properly, or look at catering.

07

Prices & Payment

What dinner costs and how you pay for it.

How expensive is Karma Indian Bistro?

What payment methods do you accept?

Karma accepts cash, debit, tap and all major credit cards, including American Express.

Can we split the bill?
